Why I Started This Blog

Forty seven years ago, I started my first year as a photography teacher at Alexander Hamilton High School. I remember the thrill of taking over the nationally recognized photography program from Lois Vinette, who was so gracious and encouraging to me, and actually postponed her retirement so that I could finish my teaching credential and my student teaching assignment with her, in the spring of 1962. I already had a pretty fair background in photography, but it was Lois Vinette that taught me how to be a teacher.

The photo lab was very well equipped, the students were highly motivated, and I was young and eager. As I build this blog and talk about my love of teaching and my experiences in enhancing the lives of my students, I want to thank them all for what I learned from them, and especially thank the many, many former students that have contacted me over these past 47 years and told me that I meant something to them, that I played a small part in enriching their lives. Never a year goes by that I do not hear from one, or more, of them. I want you to know how much that means to me.

Please let your fellow photography classmates know about this blog, and please contribute your thoughts and comments. In the many photographs I will post, I foolishly neglected to identify all of the students. If you can help identify them by name and their location in the photo, PLEASE DO!

  1. Its funny,
I've been shooting photographs for Advertising for over 35 years. Some of my best artistic photographs were shot for your classes. You got to love the "60's".
